The heater is sold separately. SaunaLife specifies a 6 kW electric heater, or a wood-fired stove.

Unlike most cabins, you do not have to work the sizing out for this one — 6 kW is the manufacturer's own figure, not our estimate. A wood-fired stove is the alternative if there is no practical way to get power to that part of the yard.

Electric means setting a temperature and walking away, and needs a dedicated circuit run to the cabin. Wood-fired needs no electrical supply at all, but does need a flue, proper clearances and somewhere dry to store wood.

A heater safety guard is included with the cabin either way. Browse sauna heaters and stoves, or call 866-427-8202 and we will match one to it before you order.

The SaunaLife Garden-Series Model G2 is the compact cabin in the range — a proper four-bather room with straight walls and full standing height throughout, on a footprint of 82.5 by 75.2 inches including the roof overhang.

Where a barrel gives you headroom only at the centre, a cabin gives it to you everywhere, and the straight walls take longer benches. The trade is a slightly larger, flatter pad and a shape that reads as a building rather than an object.

This one needs finishing, and then re-finishing. The G2 is built in Nordic spruce that is not thermally treated, so SaunaLife specifies an exterior stain or paint with UV protection. That is a job to do when you build it and periodically afterwards.

If you would rather never think about it again, our Thermo-Spruce barrels — the E6W, E7 and E7G — are thermally treated and need far less. We would rather tell you now than have you find out in year two.

Sizing your heater

Manufacturer's specification 6 kW electric heater, or a wood-fired stove — SaunaLife's own figure
Capacity 4 bathers
Exterior footprint 82.5"W × 75.2"D × 86.4"H, including the overhang
Interior dimensions Not published by SaunaLife. We have asked.
Heater guard Included with the cabin

This is the rare model where we do not have to show our arithmetic: SaunaLife states the heater size directly, so 6 kW is their number rather than ours. The installation manual still governs, and we will confirm it in writing against whichever heater you choose.

For how heater sizing works in general, see the heater sizing guide.

Cabin or barrel

Worth settling before anything else, because it changes the pad.

A cabin gives full standing height from wall to wall, straight runs for longer benches, and a slanted roof that sheds water off the back. It sits naturally against a house or fence line and reads as part of the garden architecture.

A barrel has no square corners, so there is less air to heat for the same bench space and it comes up to temperature faster. It takes less ground for similar capacity. The trade is headroom at the edges.

Neither is better. If you want to stand up and move around inside, take the cabin.

How it is built

The walls are 1.65-inch spruce planks with interlocking V-joints — a tongue-and-groove profile that pulls the courses tight as they settle and gives the interior its ridged finish. There is a full floor, which not every garden cabin includes, and a slanted roof with self-gluing EPDM roofing rather than felt.

Benches and backrests are hand-selected knotless Aspen. Knots matter more than they sound: a knot in a sauna bench conducts heat differently from the surrounding timber and becomes a hot spot you discover with the back of your leg.

The door is 8 mm tempered glass with a professional-quality pull and sturdy hinges, and the lighting is a dotless dimmable LED mounted indirect, so there is no bright point in your eyeline from the bench.

Warranty

SaunaLife provides a limited lifetime warranty on the sauna structure for residential use, to the original retail purchaser. It covers factory-assembled components found defective in workmanship.

Not covered: sauna heaters and added components, normal material wear, natural weathering of the lumber, and the labour or expenses of removing, installing or replacing the sauna. The warranty is void if the sauna is altered, misused, used commercially, or repaired by anyone other than an authorised representative.

On an untreated spruce cabin, note that weathering of the lumber is excluded — which is another reason the exterior finish is not optional.

How to make a claim: contact us at support@homemedspa.com. We open the claim and manage it with the manufacturer on your behalf.

Delivery

Ships as a kit by freight carrier, delivered curbside, to the 48 contiguous states. The carrier will not bring it into your yard, unpack it, or assemble it.

Freight is quoted for your delivery address before your order is processed. Contact us at support@homemedspa.com or call 866-427-8202 for a quote before you buy, and we will confirm the cost in writing.

Returns

See our Return & Refund Policy. Terms stated on this page govern where they differ from the general policy.

Assembly and site preparation

This sauna ships as a kit and is assembled on site. Prepare a level, load-bearing foundation before delivery — concrete, pavers or a rated deck. Bare soil is not sufficient, and an uneven base will rack the door frame. A sauna door that no longer seals is a sauna that never gets properly hot.

A cabin spreads its load over the whole footprint rather than concentrating it on cradles the way a barrel does, so the pad is more forgiving — but it needs to be bigger. Size it for 82.5 by 75.2 inches plus working room, and remember the overhang is part of that figure.

Plan the exterior finish into the build. It is far easier to stain planks before or during assembly than afterwards.

Currently assembly is not available through us — we recommend hiring a local installer.

Questions people ask before they buy

What size heater does the G2 need?

6 kW electric, or a wood-fired stove — and unusually, that is SaunaLife's own specification rather than our calculation. A heater safety guard is included with the cabin.

The installation manual governs, and we will confirm the match in writing against whichever heater you pick. Call 866-427-8202.

Does it really need staining?

Yes. The spruce is not thermally treated, and SaunaLife specifies an exterior stain or paint with UV protection. Untreated softwood left outdoors will grey, check and eventually take on water — and natural weathering of the lumber is excluded from the warranty.

If that is a commitment you would rather not make, look at the Thermo-Spruce barrels instead. They are thermally treated and need far less.

Cabin or barrel — which should I get?

Take the cabin if you want full standing height throughout, longer straight benches, and something that sits against a fence or wall like a small building. Take a barrel if you want faster heat-up for the same bench space, a smaller footprint, and less maintenance from the thermally treated timber.

Electric or wood-fired?

Electric if you want to set a temperature and walk away, and you are willing to have an electrician run a dedicated circuit to the cabin. Wood-fired if there is no practical way to get power to that part of the yard, or you want the ritual — but it needs a flue through the roof, correct clearances and dry wood storage, and it takes longer to come up to heat.

Chimney and flue components are not included and are specific to the stove, so settle this before you order.

How much space do I need?

The footprint is 82.5 by 75.2 inches including the roof overhang, standing 86.4 inches tall. Size the pad for that plus working room all round, and check the delivery route for gate widths, steps, slopes and soft ground before you order.

What are the interior dimensions?

SaunaLife does not publish them for this model and we are not going to estimate them from the exterior. We have asked for the figures. If the interior size is the deciding factor for you, call 866-427-8202 and we will get it in writing before you commit.

Does it come with a floor?

Yes — a full floor is included, which is not true of every garden cabin at this size. You still need the level pad underneath it.

Do I need a permit?

That depends on your city or county, and often on whether the structure counts as permanent, how close it sits to a property line, and whether you are running a new electrical circuit or a flue. The electrical work almost always needs a permit even where the structure does not, and a wood-fired flue frequently does. Check with your local building department before you order — we cannot answer this for your jurisdiction and would be guessing if we tried.

Can I see the installation manual before I buy?

Yes. Email support@homemedspa.com or call 866-427-8202 and we will send it. Read it first and decide the job is within reach — that is a much better place to find out than a Saturday morning with the crate already open.

Sauna heat is not for everyone. If you are pregnant, have a heart condition or low or high blood pressure, or take medication affecting blood pressure or temperature regulation, speak to your doctor before using a sauna. Do not use a sauna after drinking alcohol, and do not sauna alone if you are new to it.
